Post-Construction Acoustics Requirements: Converting Office Building into A Hospitality Project

We provide acoustical design consultancy services in pre and post-constructional stages, one such case was a hospitality project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Building structure was first constructed for office use and depending on the use acoustic designs were implemented for a business setup workspace, but hospitality requirements have different acoustic standards.

In a hospitality environment guestrooms are separated by walls close to each other which will be occupied by guests for relaxing and resting, whereas in an office/business setup building, most rooms are open or require minimal noise blockage for adept voice intelligibility.

These project requirements made it a worthy challenge for our team. Following are the steps we took in order to solve the complications of design and optimize the noise levels in the building:

  1. Sound Testing and Analysis: where we analyzed the noise levels in the building from external sources such as: traffic noise, HVAC systems, etc. Creating a design based on local and international design standards for internal and external noise.

Room To Room Acoustic Study: Between adjacent rooms, we tested the impact of the noise coming through corridors, public areas, and another room. This helped in identifying the noise-sensitive areas where acoustic treatments are required.

  2. Site Noise Survey Review and Analysis: A site noise test is conducted to evaluate the acoustic performance of the existing assemblies in the building for example: walls, doors, slabs, and façade.

  3. Acoustic Analysis, Review, And Recommendation: Based on the noise survey and data collected on-site our acoustic engineers create a comprehensive acoustic report and recommended noise mitigation strategies where applicable.
  4. Public Areas Acoustic Design: All noise-sensitive areas in public amenities such as bars, gyms, spas, event spaces, banquet halls, etc. are a part of the study where different adjacencies are being analyzed for removing any unwanted echo to ensure speech clarity in public.

We improved the noise level by performing noise testing and an acoustic study on the property to design appropriate acoustic solutions for our client.

The project outcome was a success as our team of expert acoustic consultants transformed a commercial space into a hotel meeting all the acoustic standards. For more such project insights or similar inquiries, you can contact us at info@dsp-consultants.com.
